CPRD Single Study Licence users will be first to access the CPRD Trusted Research Environment (TRE)

We can now confirm that the CPRD TRE will go live in April 2024 as previously announced.

As a not-for-profit, UK government research service, CPRD must recoup the cost of delivering research services from data access licence fees, and therefore operates on a cost-recovery basis. While we have sought to minimise the pass through of additional costs to operate the TRE there will be an increase to Single Study Licences from 2 January 2024.

While we have been working with external users to test the CPRD TRE, we are aware that we will need to provide clear information to you as the first group to use the live CPRD TRE for research. To that end please be aware of the following key information as you plan your application and agreements with us:

  • All single study licence (SSL) applications submitted on eRAP from 2 January 2024 will be conducted on the TRE
  • There will be an option to select CPRD as a storage and processing location from 2 January 2024
  • All SSL applications submitted on eRAP before 2 January 2024 must have their agreements signed by 6 April 2024
  • If an agreement is not signed before 6 April 2024, a new quote will be issued based on the TRE price model

The change to using the CPRD TRE will ensure that CPRD can continue to support public health and clinical studies in line with the Five Safes framework

If you have any questions, please contact enquiries@cprd.com including “TRE SSL” in the subject of the enquiry so it can be manged efficiently.
